BRUCE GOLDSTEIN
TENNIS PROFESSIONAL
Experience
Bruce began playing at the age of 11 when in the late summer his brother and neighbors pulled him out of the house to go play at local courts. He was immediately addicted! The next spring he was awarded a set of lessons with local Professional Claude Kilday who helped develop both his game and his professional demeanor. He was the only freshman to play number one singles in his state in high school. After his sophomore year he gave tennis up for 6 years.
Once an injury motivated him back onto the courts, he enrolled in the Van der Meer Tennis University directed by the world renowned Dennis Van der Meer. He immediately started teaching professionally and a few years later developed his game on the USTA/Penn Circuit alongside such players as Brad Drewett, Tim Wilkison and Larry Stefanki. In addition to being the Director of Tennis for a municipality in the Washington DC area, Bruce was the Head Professional at Lakewood CC, and the Director of Tennis at Norbeck and Indian Spring Country Clubs.
Among the programs he directed and was associated with was one of the strongest junior programs in the country. This program boasted at least 4 national champions and numerous NCAA players including multiple NCAA Champions and 2 players who became top 100 ATP players. At the other end of the junior spectrum he has been involved with youngsters as young as 3 years old developing their love for the game. Over the years he has coached thousands of players and hundreds of teams including his men’s 3.5 Senior Team that went to the National Championships in 2012.
He has worked on staff with the Van der Meer traveling clinic and is a charter member of the Professional Tennis Registry as well as a former member of the USPTA. His teaching methods are anchored by his ability to dissect a player’s stroke to identify flaws with the ability to lead players into positive change.
